Thanksgiving 2012

This is pretty much your typical Thanksgiving post, so I won’t be offended if you don’t read it. I’m mostly doing this post for my family afar and to have a log of what we did for Thanksgiving in 2012.

I’ll admit, I am one of those people who wants to get a workout in before the big meal so that I can feel like I’ve earned most of the calories I am about to consume. However, it didn’t seem to work because I wasn’t that hungry throughout the day.

I did 15 minutes on the stationary bike, 15 minutes on the elliptical, and 30 minutes of weight lifting.

While I was inside working out, my sister was running in shorts and a light jacket in 60* weather in Minnesota!! This is unheard of for this time of the year. Needless to say, I was jealous!

It was a balmy 10* here.

We headed over to Craig’s parent’s house for our Thanksgiving dinner. Craig’s dad was busy getting the turkey ready.

This apparently is called an “ugly drum smoker.” I don’t know much about it, but I do know the turkey tasted awesome!

I had to take a picture of the pigs on the side for my parents.

For whatever reason, the turkey had to be put in the oven to finish cooking.

While we waited, Craig entertained us with a lot of stories. . . . .hunting stories, history about Alaska, and how he was semi-quoted in a news report on TV the other night.

Then it was time to eat, and I do believe this is the best Thanksgiving meal I’ve ever had! Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes with gravy, buns, green beans, brussel sprout salad, stuffing, and sweet potatoes. My half-eaten plate. I definitely went back for seconds.

I made the brussel sprout salad courtesy of Eat, Live, Run. The recipe was called Brussel Sprouts with Bacon, Dried Cherries, and Israeli Couscous. I loved it!

Family and friends.

I guess I was too excited for dessert because I forgot to take a picture of the pumpkin pie and super yummy apple pie. I’m stuffed, and now it is time for bed!
